DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam for holding partisan strategy meetings concerning the Thiruparankundram assembly by-election while the India Meteorological Department issued a critical Red Alert forecast for Tamil Nadu. Stalin characterized the leadership's behavior as an astonishing display of administrative callousness and utter disregard for citizen safety during an impending severe weather crisis.
Stalin pointed out that when meteorologists issue high-level emergency weather warnings, constitutional leaders are expected to convene disaster management authorities, inspect vulnerable coastal embankments, verify emergency shelter preparations, and position rescue teams across vulnerable districts. Instead, the top executives of the state government remained engrossed in intra-party political calculations and election management discussions, completely abandoning their primary executive duty to protect civilian lives and livelihoods.
Stalin asserted that ignoring emergency disaster preparedness while pursuing partisan political objectives reflects an unpardonable betrayal of public trust. He demanded that the administration immediately suspend political campaigning, activate round-the-clock district emergency control rooms, deploy state disaster response forces, and ensure comprehensive relief stockpiling to protect vulnerable communities from extreme rainfall and flooding.
