Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for adopting a high-handed, repressive approach toward public grievances, warning that the state government was converting Tamil Nadu into a perpetual protest battleground by systematically suppressing democratic rights. Stalin warned the Chief Minister that the AIADMK administration resembled a fading lamp on the verge of extinguishing, cautioning that escalating public outrage would soon bring an end to its autocratic rule.

Stalin highlighted the widespread distress prevailing among transport workers, government employees, teachers, farmers, and social activists who were forced to launch sustained demonstrations after the administration broke signed agreements and ignored reasonable demands. Rather than holding constructive conciliation meetings, the government deployed police batons, mass arrests, and arbitrary detentions to crush peaceful union assemblies. He argued that democratic governance requires dialogue, consensus-building, and responsive administrative action rather than autocratic violence.

Stalin demanded that the state administration immediately abandon its repressive tactics and initiate meaningful tripartite negotiations to resolve pending wage settlements, pension demands, and service benefits. He asserted that a civilized government must respect constitutional protest rights, warning that suppressing legitimate grievances would only intensify popular revolt across Tamil Nadu.
