DMK president M.K. Stalin announced that a massive joint protest demonstration would be held in Thiruvarur under the auspices of the Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Nagapattinam district units of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The demonstration was organized to strongly condemn both the Union and Tamil Nadu governments for granting fresh exploration clearances to extract hydrocarbon resources across the Cauvery delta, a move aimed at transforming fertile agrarian plains into barren industrial wastelands.
Stalin stated that the central government had persistently targeted Tamil Nadu's premier agricultural region for hazardous extractive projects, completely disregarding the catastrophic consequences for regional food security, soil fertility, and groundwater aquifers. Despite intense public protests by local farming communities and environmental activists, the ruling AIADMK administration acted as an obedient accomplice, facilitating corporate permits and suppressing peaceful rural resistance.
Stalin called upon farmers, agricultural laborers, youth, civic forums, and concerned citizens across the delta districts to participate in large numbers in the Thiruvarur protest. He declared that the DMK would never permit the environmental devastation of Tamil Nadu's traditional agricultural heartland, pledging that the party would lead unyielding mass struggles until all hydrocarbon projects were permanently cancelled.
