Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin appealed to the President of India to intervene immediately and take decisive constitutional action regarding the total breakdown of governance in Tamil Nadu under the unconstitutional AIADMK regime. Stalin stated that the state administration had thoroughly discarded democratic principles, relying on authoritarian repression, unlawful police detentions, and false criminal charges to gag political opposition parties, civil society activists, investigative journalists, and citizen whistleblowers.

Stalin noted that the ruling dispensation, completely devoid of democratic legitimacy and public support, survived solely through unconstitutional compromises, horse-trading, and executive abuse. By paralyzing autonomous oversight bodies, misusing state vigilance agencies to protect corrupt ministers, and arbitrarily jailing democratic critics, the regime had compromised the rule of law. He argued that allowing such a thoroughly compromised administration to continue unhindered was gravely damaging to constitutional governance and public peace.

Stalin insisted that the President, as the ultimate custodian of the Indian Constitution, must step in to protect fundamental rights and restore democratic accountability in Tamil Nadu. He asserted that the people of the state could no longer tolerate administrative lawlessness, demanding immediate central intervention to halt the systematic subversion of civil liberties.
