DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary for supporting SASTRA University in its prolonged, unauthorized occupation of government land in Thanjavur. The disputed property covers 58.17 acres originally earmarked by the state prison department to establish an open-air jail facility. Stalin asserted that official complicity and prolonged inaction on this significant public parcel severely undermined state authority, administrative neutrality, and legal accountability across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin urged the state administration to resist behind-the-scenes political pressure and reclaim the encroached government tract without further postponement or administrative evasion. He observed that allowing an influential educational entity to hold public property unlawfully deprives civic departments of vital land resources required for essential correctional infrastructure, employee accommodation, training grounds, and public administrative services.
Stalin affirmed that the DMK would consistently challenge executive complicity in shielding influential violators of statutory land regulations. He called upon the state government to demonstrate institutional integrity by taking decisive custody of every acre of public land in Thanjavur, ensuring that state resources serve broader social utility rather than private institutional privilege, commercial convenience, or partisan interests.
