DMK president M.K. Stalin presented official budgetary statistics to highlight the severe fiscal crisis confronting the Tamil Nadu government under AIADMK administration. He pointed out that the fiscal deficit had escalated from Rs 40,530 crore in 2017-2018 to Rs 44,481 crore in 2018-2019, reflecting deteriorating budgetary management, mounting administrative inefficiencies, and continuous financial negligence across government departments, regional directorates, and statutory bodies.
Stalin noted that the state's revenue deficit had surged to an unprecedented Rs 17,491 crore, while total outstanding debt climbed to Rs 3.55 lakh crore. He stated that this staggering debt burden paralyzed vital capital investment, halted social infrastructure expansion, and threatened the long-term economic stability, financial autonomy, credit ratings, and sovereign standing of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin emphasized that fiscal indiscipline, administrative inefficiency, and unchecked financial irregularities had brought state machinery to a complete standstill across critical development sectors. He called for urgent fiscal corrections, transparent accounting, structural expenditure reforms, and prudent debt containment, warning that successive generations of Tamil Nadu citizens should not be forced to bear the cost of reckless governance, budgetary mismanagement, and unchecked fiscal misrule.
