DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the Tamil Nadu government for undermining the rule of law through selective policing and discriminatory law enforcement practices across the state. He remarked that criminal justice in Tamil Nadu had degenerated into an arbitrary system where legal standards differed radically based on partisan political affiliation, executive convenience, and ruling party patronage.
Stalin pointed out the stark disparity in police actions, noting that while law enforcement agencies swiftly arrested legislator Karunas for controversial remarks, they deliberately refrained from arresting Bharatiya Janata Party figures. Specifically, actor S. Ve. Shekher remained completely free despite derogatory attacks on women journalists, and H. Raja evaded arrest after publicly insulting the Madras High Court and state police personnel.
Stalin demanded to know why individuals backed by the central ruling party enjoyed absolute institutional immunity while others faced immediate detention under identical statutory laws. He urged the state police administration to maintain constitutional neutrality and enforce the law uniformly, warning that subverting legal equality to appease political masters severely damages public faith in democratic institutions, constitutional fairness, and law enforcement integrity.
