DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned reactionary and communal elements for attempting to deface the statue of rationalist pioneer Thanthai Periyar on his birth anniversary. He noted that while the entire state of Tamil Nadu was paying heartfelt homage to the leader who illuminated the path of self-respect, backward-looking fanatics attempted this desecration to ignite communal friction, disrupt social harmony, and undermine hard-won social justice principles across the state.
Stalin observed that Periyar dedicated his life to eradicating social discrimination, caste oppression, and religious orthodoxy, earning universal reverence as the father of modern Tamil social consciousness. He stated that cowardly attacks on memorials cannot dim the enduring light of Periyar's egalitarian philosophy, which continues to guide the political, educational, and cultural advancement of oppressed communities across South India.
Stalin demanded immediate, uncompromising legal action against the culprits responsible for the shameful vandalism. He reaffirmed that the Dravidian movement remains steadfast in defending Periyar's legacy against reactionary forces, declaring that no communal conspiracy will succeed in disturbing the unity, rationality, and mutual respect that define Tamil society and progressive thought across generations.
