On the #InternationalDayofDemocracy, we resolve to defend the freedom and rights guaranteed by our #Constitution.
Given how attempts are being made to silence activists and dilute institutions today, the fight for free voice must be renewed on #DemocracyDay.
DMK president M.K. Stalin marked International Day of Democracy by reaffirming a collective resolve to defend the fundamental freedoms and constitutional rights guaranteed to every citizen of India. He observed that democratic governance across the nation faced unprecedented danger due to aggressive central efforts aimed at silencing independent activists, intimidating dissenters, suppressing critical media voices, and systematically diluting the autonomy of constitutional oversight institutions across the country.
Stalin stressed that genuine democracy extends beyond periodic elections, requiring robust institutional checks, equal justice, and unfettered freedom of expression. He warned that the systematic subversion of parliamentary conventions, federal rights, state autonomy, and civil liberties under the central ruling dispensation necessitated an urgent, nationwide renewal of democratic resistance across political, judicial, and civic spectrums.
Stalin called upon all progressive, democratic, and secular forces to unite in safeguarding the foundational values enshrined in the Indian Constitution. He reaffirmed the DMK's enduring commitment to federalism, social justice, and citizen rights, declaring that protecting free voices against authoritarian consolidation is an indispensable duty for preserving India's democratic republic, secular constitutional integrity, and vibrant parliamentary traditions.
