DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded the immediate cancellation of highway maintenance tenders worth Rs 310 crore under the Salem-Chennai regional circles that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had allocated directly without conducting transparent online bidding. He criticized the Chief Minister for brazenly abusing his executive authority to bypass mandatory electronic tender procedures, converting vital infrastructure maintenance into an avenue for discretionary patronage, nepotism, and illicit financial kickbacks.
Stalin pointed out that awarding massive public contracts through closed, non-competitive channels subverted financial transparency, prevented fair contractor participation, and raised grave suspicions of systematic kickbacks. He stated that manipulating statutory procurement guidelines to benefit favored individuals compromised regional road safety, delayed essential works, and drained valuable budgetary resources earmarked for state development.
Stalin warned that the citizens of Tamil Nadu will never forgive a Chief Minister who consistently places personal enrichment and nepotistic networks above legitimate public interest. He demanded that all improperly awarded highway contracts be rescinded immediately and subjected to fresh, transparent e-tenders under independent oversight, asserting that the DMK will persistently prosecute administrative corruption in public works across the state.
