DMK president M.K. Stalin highlighted a comprehensive investigative exposé published by The Times of India detailing extensive corruption, tender manipulation, and financial improprieties within the Municipal Administration Department under Minister S.P. Velumani. He noted that the published evidence exposed how lucrative civic contracts in major municipal corporations, including Chennai and Coimbatore, were systematically monopolized by close relatives and benami associates of the minister through collusive administrative arrangements.
Stalin observed that the roster of corruption allegations involving AIADMK cabinet ministers was expanding continuously, revealing organized plunder of taxpayers' funds allocated for urban basic services, road laying, storm-water drains, and civic sanitation across cities. He questioned why Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami remained conspicuously silent and failed to initiate an inquiry or relieve the accused minister from cabinet duties despite undeniable documented evidence.
Stalin demanded an immediate, high-level vigilance inquiry into all contracts sanctioned under the Municipal Administration Department over recent years. He reiterated that the DMK will pursue legal recourse before the courts to secure accountability, asserting that corrupt politicians siphoning public development funds will face inevitable judicial retribution and public prosecution.
