DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded that the Governor of Tamil Nadu immediately grant constitutional assent to the state cabinet resolution recommending the premature release of the seven life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. He emphasized that the convicts had languished in prison for nearly three decades, far exceeding standard life imprisonment terms, and deserved release on humanitarian and constitutional grounds without procedural obstruction or further administrative delay.
Stalin warned that if the Governor delays signing the executive recommendation under Article 161 of the Constitution, the convening of the special cabinet meeting and the adoption of the resolution would be reduced to an empty, insincere political drama orchestrated by the AIADMK administration to mislead the Tamil public. He stressed that executive decisions taken by an elected cabinet must be honored promptly by the constitutional head.
Stalin urged the state government to maintain consistent legal and diplomatic pressure on Raj Bhavan to prevent procedural stalling. He reiterated that the DMK has persistently championed the release of the seven prisoners, asserting that prolonged incarceration violates human rights and demanding that the Governor act without further delay or constitutional evasion.
