DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded that the Tamil Nadu government immediately file a comprehensive writ petition before the Supreme Court of India challenging the controversial report submitted by the Central Water Resources Ministry regarding the Sterlite copper smelter plant in Thoothukudi. He strongly criticized the central report, which misleadingly claimed that the industrial unit was not responsible for severe groundwater contamination in the coastal district.
Stalin insisted that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami urgently convene an emergency cabinet meeting to officially and unconditionally reject the biased central findings. He pointed out that accepting or remaining passive toward this flawed report would jeopardize the ongoing legal struggle to permanently close the polluting factory and betray the thirteen innocent citizens killed in the horrific police firing during peaceful anti-Sterlite protests.
Stalin warned that the AIADMK regime's legal lethargy raised serious suspicions of secret collusion with corporate plant owners to facilitate the reopening of the copper smelter. He demanded proactive legal defense of Thoothukudi's environment and public health, asserting that the DMK will firmly oppose any move to reopen the polluting plant under any pretext across Tamil Nadu.
