The DMK strongly condemns the arbitrary detention of @_SwarajIndia chief @_YogendraYadav who supported farmers affected by #ChennaiSalemExpressway project.
The intolerant AIADMK govt will pay the price for denying people the democratic right to dissent & protest.
DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a stern denunciation of the Tamil Nadu government following the arbitrary police detention of Swaraj India president Yogendra Yadav in Tiruvannamalai district. Yadav had travelled to the region to meet agricultural families whose fertile lands were being surveyed and acquired for the controversial Chennai-Salem eight-lane greenfield expressway project. Stalin characterized the police action as an authoritarian assault on constitutional freedoms, asserting that peaceful solidarity with agrarian communities cannot be treated as a crime.
Stalin pointed out that the AIADMK administration had deployed excessive police presence across rural hamlets to suppress legitimate farmer grievances, intimidate local activists, and silence dissenting political voices. He stated that suppressing dialogue and arresting civil society leaders reflected extreme executive intolerance and insecurity. Denying citizens the fundamental right to peaceful assembly and protest violated core democratic norms guaranteed under the Indian Constitution.
Stalin affirmed that the DMK stood steadfastly behind agricultural communities resisting coercive land dispossession without informed consent or fair compensation. He warned the ruling establishment that trampling upon civil liberties and agrarian livelihoods would carry severe political consequences among the electorate across Tamil Nadu.
