DMK president M.K. Stalin voiced strong indignation over the Tamil Nadu police attempting to confiscate the passport of research student Lois Sofia following her release on bail. A police inspector had issued summons demanding that Sofia surrender her travel documents, despite the judicial magistrate granting unconditional bail without imposing any travel restrictions. Stalin characterized this police maneuver as an act of administrative vengeance designed to sabotage her academic future in Canada.
Stalin pointed out that the executive machinery was exceeding its legal authority by bypassing judicial directives to persecute a young citizen for expressing political criticism. While the courts recognized the fundamental right to liberty, the state police continued to intimidate Sofia and her family through bureaucratic overreach and arbitrary summons. He stated that such heavy-handed enforcement revealed a disturbing inclination to curry favor with the central ruling party by suppressing democratic dissent.
Stalin demanded that the state home department halt all unauthorized punitive actions against Sofia immediately. He emphasized that the DMK would vigorously challenge police arbitrariness and safeguard the constitutional rights of students against politically motivated administrative harassment across Tamil Nadu.
