DMK president M.K. Stalin visited tail-end agricultural zones in the Cauvery delta region to interact directly with struggling farming communities who had not received irrigation water even forty-seven days after the opening of Mettur dam. Sharing the anguish of local ryots, Stalin revealed that while water flowed continuously from the reservoir, dry canal beds and choked distributaries left standing crops parched across Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts. He observed that the AIADMK administration was busy desilting commission kickbacks rather than desilting watercourses for agriculture.
Stalin noted that the state government's hollow claims of comprehensive canal maintenance were thoroughly exposed on the ground. Desilting funds allocated by the public works department had vanished into fraudulent paperwork, leaving major irrigation channels overgrown with weeds and silt mounds that blocked gravity flow. Farming families who invested heavily in preparatory cultivation faced ruinous economic losses.
Stalin demanded immediate executive intervention to deploy dredging machinery on an emergency footing to clear downstream blockages. He assured agrarian communities that an incoming DMK government would prioritize scientific water management, revitalizing delta waterways and guaranteeing timely agricultural water access to all farming tracts.
