DMK president M.K. Stalin personally inspected the collapsed shutters of the historic Mukombu regulator across the Kollidam river near Tiruchirappalli. Nine vital regulator gates had washed away during heavy river inflows, causing millions of cubic feet of precious water to drain unutilized into the sea. Stalin ridiculed Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for frivolously claiming that the regulator suffered from a seasonal fever, describing the ruling administration as an institution mired in a corrupt coma that neglected basic public infrastructure.
Stalin emphasized that the catastrophe was entirely man-made, stemming from years of zero maintenance, illicit sand mining around the piers, and blatant diversion of repair budgets by public works authorities. He pointed out that local engineers and farming associations had repeatedly cautioned the government regarding structural vibrations and scouring around the foundation, but executive officials chose to ignore all technical warnings.
Stalin demanded that the state administration construct a robust temporary ring bund on a war footing to prevent further water loss and initiate permanent reconstruction with technical oversight. He stressed that preserving irrigation lifelines is paramount for agricultural security across central Tamil Nadu.
