DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded that the Tamil Nadu government immediately constitute a special investigative committee headed by a senior Indian Administrative Service officer to probe extensive tender corruption in the execution of Smart City projects across the state. Stalin pointed out that Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani had repeatedly intervened in administrative procurement processes, manipulating tender specifications to award lucrative civic contracts to his close associates and proxy firms.

Stalin called for rigorous criminal proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Minister Velumani and complicit municipal officials who facilitated the unlawful diversion of urban development funds. Vital public works spanning stormwater drain installation, waste management, municipal surveillance systems, and public utility software were systematically compromised by substandard execution and inflated budgetary allocations.

Stalin stressed that the central purpose of modernization funds intended to improve civic living conditions across major municipal corporations was being subverted into personal financial enrichment for ruling politicians. He affirmed that the DMK would continue to unmask procurement irregularities, ensuring that public resources allocated for urban renewal are safeguarded with absolute transparency, statutory compliance, and rigorous executive oversight across Tamil Nadu.
