DMK president M.K. Stalin extended warm and heartfelt Onam greetings to Malayali communities across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and around the world. Recognizing the solemn circumstances surrounding the festivities in 2018, Stalin observed that the true spirit of Onam lies in boundless empathy, universal equality, and human solidarity. He appealed to everyone to observe the festival by actively contributing to the relief and rehabilitation of Kerala, which had been devastated by unprecedented monsoon flooding and catastrophic landslides.

Stalin noted that hundreds of lives had been lost, thousands of families displaced from submerged homes, and basic infrastructure crippled across multiple districts of the neighboring state. He emphasized that during times of monumental natural disasters, humanitarian duty transcends state boundaries and linguistic divisions between neighboring peoples.

Stalin highlighted that the DMK had already dispatched vital relief materials, emergency medicines, and financial assistance to help flood victims rebuild their lives. He called upon party cadres, social organizations, and citizens to sustain their charitable efforts, expressing confident hope that Kerala's resilient spirit would overcome adversity and restore normalcy and prosperity to every devastated hamlet. Mutual brotherhood remains the true essence of humanity.
