DMK president M.K. Stalin held the ruling AIADMK government entirely responsible for the disastrous structural collapse of eight regulator shutters at the historic Mukombu dam across the Kollidam river. Stalin pointed out that this unprecedented failure posed grave peril to regional irrigation infrastructure and caused vast volumes of valuable river water to drain wastefully into the Bay of Bengal. He questioned why an administration that continuously boasted of spending hundreds of crores on dam repairs had utterly failed to detect visible structural decay beforehand.

Stalin emphasized that the collapse was not a natural misfortune but the direct outcome of rampant administrative neglect, bureaucratic inertia, and corrupt diversion of public works funding. Unregulated riverbed sand mining adjacent to the dam piers had weakened the foundation over years, while essential pre-monsoon maintenance was completely neglected.

Stalin demanded immediate executive accountability, calling for an inquiry into the contractor syndicates and supervisory officials responsible for upkeep.
