DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the decision of the National Highways Authority of India to impose yet another steep toll fare hike ranging between 10 and 15 percent across toll plazas in Tamil Nadu. Stalin noted that this punitive revision came barely four months after toll charges were increased by 20 percent in April. He characterized the relentless tariff inflation as predatory exploitation of highway users, demanding an immediate and complete rollback of the proposed toll enhancement.

Stalin underscored that recurring toll hikes severely hurt motorists, long-distance bus commuters, small transport operators, and freight logistics companies. Compounding transport expenses inevitably triggers price escalations in essential food grains, vegetables, and everyday household commodities, shifting an intolerable economic burden onto ordinary citizens.

Stalin criticized the central highways authority for continuing to collect exorbitant tolls at multiple plazas where concessionaire capital costs had long been fully amortized. He affirmed that highway infrastructure must serve the public interest rather than function as an instrument for corporate profit extraction. Stalin urged highway authorities to eliminate defunct toll gates, streamline tariff structures, and provide genuine economic relief to road travelers across the state.
