DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded full public accounting from the AIADMK government regarding the expenditure of nearly 5,000 crore rupees officially earmarked for water resources and irrigation management in Tamil Nadu. Stalin pointed out that despite huge budgetary outlays, hundreds of thousands of cubic feet of flood surplus waters were allowed to wastefully drain into the sea, while agrarian tracts across delta districts suffered acute water scarcity.
Stalin questioned the scale of corrupt kickbacks siphoned off from desilting, check dam construction, and canal modernization projects under ruling party ministers. He stressed that the AIADMK administration was directly culpable for halting and sabotaging multiple visionary irrigation initiatives originally launched during the previous DMK government, including major river link canals and barrages designed to capture surplus monsoonal flows effectively.
Stalin asserted that the state's agricultural prosperity had been deliberately compromised to feed corrupt contractor syndicates. He vowed that an incoming DMK administration would revive stalled irrigation projects, construct new balancing reservoirs, and implement transparent, science-based watershed management to ensure that not a single drop of precious freshwater is squandered across Tamil Nadu.
