DMK president M.K. Stalin presented a detailed financial breakdown exposing massive fiscal irregularities in the Tamil Nadu government's water resources department. Stalin revealed that between 2016 and 2019, the AIADMK regime claimed to have spent approximately 4,735 crore rupees on water management, including 700 crore rupees in state budget allocations, 3,008 crore rupees from World Bank funding, and 215 crore rupees from the Asian Development Bank.
Stalin highlighted the tragic irony that despite spending thousands of crores in public and international development funds, hundreds of thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of monsoonal surplus water flowed unharvested into the sea. The promised modern barrages, check dams, and interlinked supply channels existed merely on official ledgers, while agricultural farmlands remained parched and underground water aquifers continued to decline precipitously.
Stalin declared that this blatant waste of financial resources represented unpardonable institutional plunder at the expense of Tamil Nadu's farming community. He demanded an independent judicial inquiry to uncover the diversion of multilateral funds, affirming the DMK steadfast commitment to genuine, scientific watershed development and robust water conservation across Tamil Nadu. Public welfare must always supersede partisan corruption.
