DMK leader M.K. Stalin expressed profound anguish over precious Cauvery water draining uselessly into the sea despite the Mettur reservoir reaching full capacity twice in the season. He pointed out that abundant inflows were wasted instead of replenishing parched agricultural fields, filling irrigation tanks, or addressing drinking water scarcity across Tamil Nadu. Stalin attributed this colossal waste directly to the ruling AIADMK administration's utter lack of vision and planning regarding water resource management.

Highlighting the hardships faced by farmers across the delta basin, Stalin remarked that agricultural families had struggled through consecutive seasons of severe drought and acute water shortages. When nature finally provided surplus river waters, the state machinery proved utterly unprepared to divert, store, or channel the deluge through feeder canals and distribution channels. The failure to desilt water bodies and strengthen bunds beforehand prevented regional water tables from recharging effectively.

Stalin demanded that the state government immediately overhaul its hydrological planning and execute scientific water storage mechanisms to safeguard rural livelihoods. He reaffirmed that prudent stewardship of natural resources remains essential for regional prosperity, emphasizing that genuine governance requires proactive planning rather than bureaucratic indifference toward critical public needs.
