DMK leader M.K. Stalin condemned the ruling AIADMK government for its passive response toward the severe structural damage threatening the Kollidam river bridge near Tiruchirappalli. While authorities suspended vehicular traffic following alarming cracks, Stalin criticized the administration for remaining inert rather than initiating prompt emergency restoration works. He stressed that merely halting transportation while the bridge stood on the verge of collapse endangered connectivity and revealed reckless official complacency.
With massive volumes of surplus water being continuously discharged from the Mettur reservoir, Stalin warned that raging river currents could cause imminent structural failure. Given the extreme gravity of the situation and the acute technical urgency required, he urged the state government to seek immediate technical assistance from specialized Indian Army engineering units. Deploying specialized military personnel would enable rapid structural stabilization and prevent catastrophic disruption along this vital transit corridor connecting central districts.
Stalin affirmed that safeguarding public infrastructure requires swift, decisive executive action and foresight. He demanded that state authorities execute durable rehabilitation and reinforcement measures on an immediate war footing, ensuring uninterrupted transit and protecting public passenger safety from bureaucratic inertia across Tamil Nadu.
