DMK leader M.K. Stalin issued a trenchant denunciation of the ruling AIADMK government for systematically persecuting May 17 Movement coordinator Thirumurugan Gandhi through repetitive criminal detentions. Despite the judiciary censuring the state administration for vindictive enforcement, authorities immediately arrested the social activist in another case and remanded him to judicial custody. Stalin characterized this persistent harassment as a brazen attempt to intimidate civil society voices and silence public advocacy.
Highlighting the erosion of constitutional norms, Stalin remarked that crushing the legitimate rights and democratic dissent of citizens under police boots reflects autocratic arrogance. Activists exercising fundamental rights to free speech, peaceful assembly, and public criticism were being treated as hostile elements by an intolerant executive machinery. He pointed out that weaponizing the state penal apparatus against political dissenters contradicts core principles of democratic governance and undermines institutional fairness.
Stalin demanded the immediate release of Thirumurugan Gandhi and the cessation of fabricated criminal cases designed to stifle dissent. He affirmed that the DMK stands uncompromisingly in defense of democratic freedoms, asserting that no government can suppress the people's collective voice through coercive administrative tactics and executive harassment.
