Illegalities in mining of monazite - an atomic mineral- are a threat to national security.

Will @PMOIndia take note? Is this not a fit case for CBI enquiry? https://t.co/PgDCyM994L

Editorial context

DMK leader M.K. Stalin demanded an immediate investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the colossal illegal mineral sand mining scam highlighted in the comprehensive official report submitted by senior IAS officer Gagandeep Singh Bedi. Citing the staggering finding that the Tamil Nadu government suffered an estimated revenue loss exceeding 1.8 lakh crore rupees, Stalin called upon the Prime Minister's Office to take direct notice of the monumental plundering of state resources.

Stalin highlighted that the illicit extraction of monazite, a strategic and federally regulated atomic mineral, represents a grave threat to national security in addition to causing astronomical financial losses. The systematic smuggling of sensitive minerals from southern coastal belts could only have transpired with high-level administrative complicity and political patronage within the state government. Stalin stressed that ordinary police investigations were thoroughly inadequate to confront powerful corporate lobbies operating across interstate borders.

Stalin reiterated that safeguarding sovereign natural wealth and national security requires an exhaustive federal probe. He urged central authorities to act impartially to recover plundered public assets, prosecute culpable mining syndicates, and restore statutory oversight over critical mineral reserves.
