Editorial context

DMK leader M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the unconstitutional and discriminatory transfer of Pappammal, a Dalit woman employed as a noon-meal cook at a government school in Tiruppur district, following casteist pressure from local dominant groups. Denouncing the incident as a blatant and intolerable manifestation of untouchability, Stalin asserted that such regressive discrimination is an outrage in Tamil Nadu, a land nurtured by the egalitarian ideals of social justice. He demanded that the state government immediately revoke the transfer and reinstate Pappammal at her original post.

Stalin castigated local administrative officials for cowardly succumbing to caste fanaticism instead of enforcing the law and protecting vulnerable workers from caste-based exclusion. In a civilized democratic society, denying a woman her livelihood and subjecting her to public humiliation because of her caste identity violates constitutional guarantees of equality and human dignity. Allowing reactionary elements to dictate public school administration threatens the social cohesion of local communities.

Stalin declared that the DMK will never tolerate caste-based bigotry or administrative capitulation to prejudice. He called for strict legal prosecution against perpetrators of caste discrimination and reiterated his commitment to defending social equality.
