DMK leader M.K. Stalin extended his party's wholehearted support to Congress President Rahul Gandhi's advocacy for the expeditious enactment of the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament. In a formal communication addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Stalin urged the Union government to demonstrate political will by ensuring the early passage of the historic legislation providing thirty-three percent reservation for women in Parliament and state legislative assemblies.
Stalin recalled that DMK patriarch Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi had consistently championed gender equality and paved the way for progressive reforms, including thirty percent reservation for women in local self-governing bodies in Tamil Nadu during his tenure as Chief Minister. Elevating women's legislative representation is essential for dismantling patriarchal barriers, advancing social justice, and enriching democratic policymaking. Stalin pointed out that despite possessing a decisive majority in the Lok Sabha, the central ruling party had continuously stalled the landmark reform.
Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK remains committed to women's empowerment across political, economic, and social spheres. He called upon all political parties to unite beyond partisan lines to pass the legislation and guarantee equitable governance.
