DMK leader M.K. Stalin stated that recent Income Tax raids targeting highway contractors conclusively exposed the clandestine motives behind Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami's frantic efforts to dilute the Tamil Nadu Lokayukta legislation. Stalin pointed out that while creating an ostensibly independent anti-graft ombudsman, the Chief Minister had deliberately incorporated a regressive clause explicitly exempting government tenders and contracts from the investigative jurisdiction of the Lokayukta.
Stalin explained that the Chief Minister had systematically allocated multi-thousand crore rupee highway procurement projects exclusively to his close relatives, in-laws, and proxy associates. Terrified that a genuinely autonomous anti-corruption watchdog would investigate the inflated tender bids and institutional favoritism, Palaniswami engineered a toothless Lokayukta designed purely to shield his administration from criminal exposure. The unearthing of immense unaccounted wealth from those very contractors laid bare the premeditated design to institutionalize corruption.
Stalin asserted that the DMK will persistently fight to repeal exclusionary clauses and establish a genuinely powerful, independent Lokayukta with complete authority over public procurement. He affirmed that public office requires total transparency and that statutory oversight must hold executive heads accountable.
