DMK leader M.K. Stalin expressed grave alarm over the catastrophic collapse of Tamil Nadu's public finances under seven consecutive years of AIADMK governance. Citing official macroeconomic data, Stalin pointed out that the growth rate of outstanding public debt had ballooned to an alarming 29.85 percent, while the debt repayment-to-receipt ratio had deteriorated to 12.4. He asserted that the ruling regime had succeeded only in bankrupting the state exchequer and severely curtailing capital development projects across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin explained that reckless borrowing without creating productive capital assets or expanding revenue streams had plunged the state into a vicious debt trap. Escalating interest obligations consumed massive portions of budgetary revenues, leaving negligible funds for healthcare, education, welfare assistance, and rural infrastructure. Under previous DMK administrations, disciplined fiscal management maintained balanced deficits while funding ambitious infrastructure and social programs. In contrast, the current dispensation depleted state resources through corruption, administrative leakages, and fiscal lethargy.
Stalin warned that pushing Tamil Nadu into fiscal insolvency threatens the socioeconomic wellbeing of future generations. He reaffirmed that the DMK remains committed to prudent financial governance and rejuvenating the state's economic vitality.
