DMK leader M.K. Stalin demanded an immediate investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the shocking revelation that substandard coal imports had caused an estimated 1,500 crore rupee loss to the state power utility, as documented by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). Expressing profound outrage over the findings, Stalin warned that if the state government failed to recommend an independent federal probe, the DMK would approach the High Court to seek judicial intervention.
Stalin pointed out that the CAG report had meticulously documented how high-ranking officials and ministers deliberately procured inferior-grade coal at exorbitant prices, bypassing quality benchmarks and manipulating laboratory test certificates. This fraudulent procurement not only burdened the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation with crippling financial losses but also caused severe technical damage to thermal power generating stations. The resulting financial deficit was ultimately passed onto ordinary consumers through punishing electricity tariff hikes.
Stalin declared that looting public funds in the vital energy sector cannot be tolerated. He affirmed that the DMK will persistently demand full legal accountability and judicial punishment for those responsible for draining the state treasury.
