Editorial context

DMK leader M.K. Stalin expressed fierce condemnation on June 22, 2018, over the arrest and judicial remand of DMK office-bearers and cadres in Namakkal district. The party workers had gathered peacefully to display black flags during Governor Banwarilal Purohit's administrative inspection visit. Stalin stated that remanding peaceful demonstrators under non-bailable penal sections represented an outrageous assault on constitutional liberties and exposed the state government's authoritarian intolerance.

Purohit had traveled to Namakkal to convene review meetings with district revenue and police officials, bypassing state department ministers. DMK cadres staged a silent demonstration nearby, arguing that gubernatorial interventions in district administration violate the constitutional scheme of state autonomy. In response, police officers cracked down heavily on the assembled protesters, rounding up dozens of party functionaries and sending them to prison. Stalin described this punitive reaction as excessive and politically motivated.

Stalin demanded the immediate withdrawal of false criminal charges and the swift release of all remanded party workers. He insisted that displaying black flags is an established democratic form of dissent. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will continue to mobilize citizens against administrative intrusions that undermine Tamil Nadu's constitutional rights.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
