I am concerned with the disdain shown by Lt. Gov. of Delhi towards an elected Chief Minister like @ArvindKejriwal. The BJP is proactively destroying the federal structure of this nation. I express my solidarity with the Chief Ministers who are standing up for States' rights.

Editorial context

DMK leader M.K. Stalin expressed profound concern on June 16, 2018, over the persistent disdain shown by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi toward elected Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Stalin stated that the hostility displayed toward an elected executive demonstrated how the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was proactively dismantling the federal architecture of the Indian republic. He declared complete solidarity with Chief Ministers across the country who were standing up to defend state rights against central overreach.

The governance crisis in Delhi had reached an unprecedented flashpoint, with Chief Minister Kejriwal and cabinet colleagues staging a prolonged sit-in at Raj Niwas to protest bureaucratic non-cooperation encouraged by the central administration. Stalin pointed out that weaponizing gubernatorial offices to paralyze elected regional governments subverts the core principles of parliamentary democracy. Whether in Delhi, Puducherry, or Tamil Nadu, unelected central appointees were systematically deployed to undermine the democratic mandate of regional electorates.

Stalin emphasized that the Indian federation cannot survive if regional executives are treated as administrative subordinates by central functionaries. He called upon all democratic parties to unite in defense of cooperative federalism. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently champion regional autonomy and resist every assault on constitutional governance.
