DMK leader M.K. Stalin announced on June 13, 2018, that the DMK had submitted an exhaustive formal corruption complaint to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption against Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami. The complaint demanded immediate criminal prosecution against Palaniswami for grossly abusing his executive authority in the state Highways Department. Stalin revealed that the Chief Minister had orchestrated fraudulent tender awards worth thousands of crores to close relatives and benami corporate entities.
The detailed dossier submitted by the DMK meticulously documented how highway infrastructure contracts across Madurai, Tirunelveli, and Coimbatore were awarded to select firms at exorbitantly inflated rates. Mandatory World Bank procurement norms and state transparency rules were systematically violated to prevent competitive bidding, guaranteeing multi-crore windfalls to family networks. Stalin pointed out that as the minister holding the Highways portfolio, Palaniswami had engaged in direct conflict of interest and criminal misconduct under anti-corruption statutes.
Stalin insisted that the Vigilance Commissioner initiate an immediate, independent inquiry into these documentary proofs without bowing to political interference. He warned that attempts to suppress evidence would meet vigorous judicial resistance. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will aggressively pursue this multi-crore highway scam until all culprits face criminal conviction.
