DMK leader M.K. Stalin highlighted judicial observations from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on June 13, 2018, which exposed the fundamental flaws in the state government's order sealing the Sterlite copper plant. The court had observed that the administrative order lacked clarity and directed the state to take a clear policy decision. Stalin asserted that this judicial indictment unmasked the double game played by the AIADMK government after massacring innocent Thoothukudi citizens.

The police firing on May 22 had claimed thirteen lives and injured scores of unarmed demonstrators protesting against toxic industrial pollution. In an attempt to quell public fury, the government issued a hastily drafted administrative order to seal the factory premises. Stalin stated that the court's remarks validated the DMK's warning that the regime issued a fragile order designed to collapse during corporate appeals.

Stalin asserted that the administration had engaged in cynical deception to protect corporate interests at the expense of human lives. He demanded that the cabinet immediately adopt an enforceable policy resolution to seal the plant permanently. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will continue to demand legal justice for the victims of the Thoothukudi massacre.
