DMK leader M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and grief on June 7, 2018, over the tragic suicide of Subhasree, a bright student from Tiruchirappalli who took her life after failing to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. Stalin conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved parents, observing that a young student who should have been embarking on higher education with hopeful dreams had been driven to despair by an insensitive national examination framework.
Subhasree's death followed similar student suicides across the state, underscoring the severe trauma inflicted on rural students by NEET. Stalin pointed out that students from modest backgrounds, who excel in board curricula, find themselves excluded by centralized tests that favor commercial coaching factories. This structural bias shatters the medical aspirations of hardworking youngsters, transforming an empowering educational pathway into an agonizing ordeal.
Stalin asserted that the central and state governments bear direct moral responsibility for pushing vulnerable students toward extreme despair. He reiterated that standardized entrance tests must be replaced by equitable admission procedures based on school performance. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will relentlessly fight to abolish NEET and protect young students.
