DMK Working President M.K. Stalin traveled to Peravalur village in Viluppuram district on June 5, 2018, to pay homage to the mortal remains of student Pradeeba, who died by suicide after NEET shattered her dream of studying medicine. Stalin laid a wreath on her body, offered condolences to her family, and pledged that the DMK would stand beside them in their hour of grief.
Pradeeba, the daughter of a daily wage laborer, was an exceptionally diligent student who secured 1125 marks out of 1200 in her higher secondary examinations. Despite her academic excellence under the state syllabus, she was unable to clear the centralized entrance test because her family could not afford expensive private coaching classes. Stalin stated that her untimely demise was not an isolated tragedy, but an institutional homicide resulting from a rigid, exclusionary testing system that treats rural students with systemic prejudice.
Stalin declared that Tamil Nadu cannot continue sacrificing talented young lives at the altar of standardized examinations. He urged state and central authorities to heed the cries of distraught families and abolish the examination. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will relentlessly fight until state medical admissions are restored entirely to school board merit.
