DMK leader M.K. Stalin demanded on May 30, 2018, that Tamil Nadu Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar and Director General of Police T.K. Rajendran be dismissed immediately following the registration of a regular first information report by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the multi-crore Gutkha bribery scam. Stalin emphasized that an independent investigation is impossible while individuals named in the bribery diary occupy powerful executive and policing positions.

The Gutkha scam involved systematic bribery of senior state politicians, police officials, and health inspectors to facilitate the illicit manufacture and sale of banned tobacco products. Income Tax department raids earlier uncovered accounting ledgers recording monthly kickbacks to the Health Minister and police commanders. Stalin pointed out that allowing implicated officials to retain command creates an intolerable conflict of interest, risking witness intimidation and destruction of evidence.

Stalin insisted that administrative integrity requires the immediate removal of both officials from public office pending criminal investigation. He urged central investigative authorities to pursue the case without fear or favor. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will vigorously pursue legal remedies to ensure that high-level corruption is fully prosecuted.
