DMK leader M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the AIADMK administration on May 27, 2018, for arresting Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi leader T. Velmurugan while refusing to file a single criminal case against police officers who shot thirteen citizens dead in Thoothukudi. Stalin characterized the arrest as an act of political vendetta aimed at intimidating opposition figures and diverting public scrutiny from executive failures.
Stalin pointed out the stark hypocrisy of a law enforcement machinery that shields trigger-happy personnel while detaining political leaders on fabricated charges. He asserted that Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had reduced the state police into a compliant instrument serving partisan and central interests. By suppressing democratic voices, the administration demonstrated its utter contempt for constitutional liberties and regional welfare.
Calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Velmurugan, Stalin demanded that Chief Minister Palaniswami step down from office to safeguard the democratic fabric of Tamil Nadu. He stated that a ministry incapable of holding killer cops accountable has forfeited its moral right to govern. Stalin reiterated that the DMK will stand united with all democratic allies to resist authoritarian police actions.
